VolunteerUs
About:
VolunteerUs is a free online community that is unifying and organizing philanthropy throughout North America. It’s a place where businesses, organizations, politicians and volunteers can all come together to accomplish a goal.

The core of the VolunteerUs community consists of several features that were built to make getting involved as simple as possible.

Industry:
Non-profit Volunteer Services

Project Introduction:
Innate Media Group was originally brought into work on the website build for VolunteerUs’s ambitious new marketplace. IMG was asked to consult on the idea, brand, design, and ultimately requested to develop a highly functional and user-friendly online environment for users.

Problem:
When VolunteerUs first approached IMG, they had an excellent idea and concept, but little understanding of how to technically execute this initiative. Also, because VolunteerUs was a non-profit start-up company, there were certain pieces of the puzzle that were needed to be phased out and launched at strategic times to ensure the organization had the bandwidth to successfully manage all of the desired online functionality of the service.

Technology:
Front end: Adobe Photoshop, xHTML, CSS, Ajax
Back end: PHP, MySQL

Solution:
Innate Media Group took on the role of branding and web consulting to develop the strategy on how to best shape and launch the VolunteerUs online portal. Once IMG and VolunteerUs sculpted the brand, we then began designing and developing the very sophisticated online marketplace to match the desired needs of the volunteer service. The functionality of the website is able to organize, prioritize, and clearly make all of the content in the marketplace easy to maintain - thus, limiting the need for a large staff.

Our Approach:
Innate Media Group began by wrapping its head around the complexity of the volunteer-based service portal being presented by VolunteerUs. Because the client didn’t necessarily know how to launch the online system, IMG took the time to learn the needs and requirements of VolunteerUs before executing the developed strategy. After the brand and concept had been developed, IMG than began aggressively focusing its efforts on ensuring the tools of the online system were bug-free and that the functionality was user-friendly and easily understood by volunteers.

Result/Benefits:
Since launch, there has been positive public opinion over the layout and overall usefulness of the online tool and has been well documented in publications, online discussion forums, and blogs all over North America. The simplicity of how to use the marketplace to find, post, and browse volunteer opportunities has been so successful, that thousands of corporations are now using the website as their sole resource to hire volunteers for their many campaign requirements.

Duration:
The strategy, branding, design and development of the VolunteerUs website/portal took 2 months to achieve. IMG and VolunteerUs have been doing business since 2010.
